ONE BOY, ONE GIRL

I hate birthday's. I don't really understand birthday's. Why am I being celebrated? I didn't do any of the work, I just popped out. I hate birthday's too, because I thought when I turned 18 everything would change. Young and sweet 17 me would be erased and the second it hit June 15th, I would be happier. I knew that wouldn't be the case... but I hoped that I could leave 15,16,17 behind the moment I turned 18. 
 
Birthday's are overrated. I get text all day long about people who only text me on June 15th telling me how much they miss me, yeah right. Many years I spent refreshing the screen waiting to see who would remember. This year I didn't care, this year I had nothing to stress about. No drivers test, no big birthday, it just was. 

But this year, I wanted to be celebrated. It's stupid, I know. I have a summer birthday, so my friends could definitely plan a surprise party for me like they did several other birthday's this year. I'm leaving for college in two months and this birthday will probably one of the last celebrating with the group of girls I had in my head to spend that evening with. But I wasn't surprised this year, or last year, or the year before that. My birthday is just every other day with unrealistic expectations from people. 

I spent today in a weird mood. I am 18, everything does change. 

I don't want to end on a negative note. I love parts of my birthday. There are things that will never change. I love waking up and walking downstairs and looking at the table with 2 biscuits or 2 Krispy Kreme doughnuts with one candle in each. I love sitting down at that table waiting for my brother to make his way down the steps. I love sitting at the table with my brother while my mom blast the Collin Raye song "One Boy, One Girl". 

I think what I can take from the first 27 hours of being 18 is the people who do show up for you matter. I don't need a surprise party, or gifts, just simply my family and my closest friends who went to a 10PM showing of the Little Mermaid just for me. 

Birthday's might be overrated but the memories definitely are not.
